Why does Peter learn Sylar's super ability?

Why does Peter learn Sylar’s super ability? Doesn’t he can copy other’s ability so why he has to learn again? It seems that Peter is not so strong after 4 year? I think I have to buy this set to have it check so I hope www.dvdcollects.com have these dvds now.
